Konaklı: a quieter base just west of Alanya

Konaklı is a resort town about 12 km west of Alanya centre, strung along the coast road between the mountains and the sea. It has mid-size hotels, apartment complexes and a real town centre, beaches that mix sand, pebbles and small rocky coves, and Alanya close enough for an evening out: a calmer alternative to staying in the city.

Where to stay in Konaklı

Most hotels and apartments sit between the D400 coast road and the sea, so the main question is how far you want to be from the centre and how much road you want to cross to reach the beach.

Things to do

Beaches

Konaklı's shore is a mix: sandy stretches with sunbeds in front of the hotels, pebbly sections and, here and there, rocky coves with clear water for snorkelling. The sea gets deep fairly quickly in places, so families with small children should pick a hotel with a gentle, sandy entry.

Şarapsa Han

Between Konaklı and Alanya stands Şarapsa Han, a 13th-century Seljuk caravanserai built for traders on the old coastal route. Its long stone hall is one of the best preserved in the region; check locally whether it is open, as its use has changed over the years.

Alanya, boat trips and the aquapark

Alanya's castle, Cleopatra Beach, the harbour boat trips and the waterpark are all within 20–30 minutes. Most excursions to the Dim river, Sapadere canyon or Side pick up from Konaklı hotels. See the Alanya guide and our day trips page; the weekly market is on Wednesday (market days).

Getting around

Dolmuş minibuses run frequently along the coast road between Konaklı and Alanya, and also west towards Avsallar and Okurcalar, so a car is not essential. Taxis are easy to find in the centre.

Most visitors fly into Antalya, about 1 hour 55 minutes away by car (Antalya Airport transfers). Gazipaşa-Alanya airport (GZP) is about 55 minutes, if your airline flies there (Gazipaşa Airport transfers). Torn between the two sides of the coast? Read Side or Alanya.

When to go

The season runs from April to late October. July and August are hot and the hotels are full; May, June, September and October bring warm sea water with fewer people. In winter many hotels close, but apartments and the town centre stay open. See weather by month and the holiday budget calculator.
