Göcek: the sailing village

Göcek is a small, upmarket village tucked into a bay full of pine-covered islands, 25 minutes from Dalaman Airport. With six marinas, it is the yachting capital of the Turquoise Coast: the place to start a gulet cruise or a bareboat charter, or simply to spend a quiet week of boat trips and waterside dinners.

Things to do

Island boat trips

Day boats leave from the waterfront every morning for the twelve islands of Göcek Bay: Yassıca's sandy shallows, the ruins and baths at Cleopatra's Bay, Tersane island and many coves with clear water. Lunch is served on board. Private boat hire for a day is common and good value for a group.

Gulet cruises and charters

Göcek is the main base for week-long blue cruises along the Turquoise Coast, west towards Marmaris or east to Fethiye, Kaş and Kekova. Cabin charters on a shared gulet suit couples; whole-boat charters with crew suit groups and families. Bareboat yachts are available for skippers with a licence.

Waterfront life

The village promenade is lined with fish restaurants, cafés and the boats of the marinas. It is relaxed and safe, with a higher price level than Fethiye but excellent food.

Nearby

Fethiye is 20 to 25 minutes away through the tunnel, Dalyan about 40 minutes west. See our Fethiye and Dalyan guides.

Getting there

Göcek is the closest resort to Dalaman Airport, about 25 minutes by car; see the transfer guide. Intercity buses between Dalaman and Fethiye stop at the Göcek junction on the main road.

When to go

The sailing season runs from May to October. June and September offer the best mix of warm sea, steady winds and quieter anchorages; July and August are busy on the water. See our weather guide.

Frequently asked questions

Göcek has no long beach in the village; you swim from platforms or take a boat to the islands. If a beach on your doorstep matters, choose Ölüdeniz or Dalyan's İztuzu.

How far is Göcek from Dalaman Airport?

About 25 km, roughly 25 minutes, the shortest transfer on the Turquoise Coast after Sarıgerme.

Can I hire a private boat in Göcek?

Yes, private day boats with a captain are easy to arrange on the waterfront or through your hotel, and good value for families and groups.

What is a gulet cruise?

A cruise on a traditional wooden motor-sailer with a crew and cook, sleeping on board and stopping in bays to swim. Cruises from Göcek usually last a week.
